(NBC) – The US Public Interest Research Group has released a report showing that some of the country's most popular beers and wines contain small amounts of "glyphosate", a harmful herbicide, also called " Roundup ".
The consumer group reported testing 20 alcoholic beverages, including Budweiser, Coors and Shutter Home. There were 19 drinks that had traces of the herbicide. Many brewers say they are opposed to the use of this chemical and point out that the amounts of glyphosate present in their products are well below the limits of the EPA.
The United States, "Pirg", says the results are not necessarily dangerous but worrying, given the potential health risks.
A statement from the beer institute says in part, "The number one priority of our industry is consumer safety", and she emphasized the United States' own conclusion, Pirg, that glyphosate levels were lower than the EPA's tolerance risk for beverages.
