Report suggests Harry Kane is potentially open to new Tottenham contract

Speculation surrounding Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham Hotspur continues to swirl and does not appear to be abating anytime soon. Manchester City, the club most interested in buying Kane, still appear to be playing coy with an acceptable offer, which would be around £ 150-160million, and there has been speculation they are waiting for a future bid for Kane after Jack Grealish’s £ 100million buyout from Manchester City.

But as information trickles out, speculation rises. The biggest unspoken speculation is that after returning to Tottenham training center a week later than expected, Kane may even be open to a new contract at Spurs to start repairing his reputation at the club.

To be clear, we haven’t seen this reported as factual by any credible organization. However, none other than football. The London Spurs hinted at writer Alasdair Gold in an episode of his “Gold and Guest” podcast which was released this morning. And it is extremely interesting.

Here’s a transcript of what Gold says about Kane and a potential new contract.

“We are now in a situation where it is much less likely that [Kane] move, because I think it’s too little time. I’m intrigued to see where this is going now for Kane and “Camp Kane” so to speak because there are little noises coming out of his camp not to completely rule out a new contract for him. Which would be an incredible U-turn.

“And for me, the prospect of that is amazing. Other elements to this is yes, if you are going to stay why not get more money. I totally understand. And I think if you look at what Spurs are trying to do in the transfer market, maybe you can tell there’s something exciting going on there.

“Gollini is a substitute goalkeeper, but he’s a talented goalkeeper, he could succeed Lloris. Bryan Gil is one of the most talented prospects in Spanish football. [Cristian] Romero, my God. I asked Espirito Santo about him on Sunday and he’s probably as excited as I saw Espirito Santo and he’s a guy who doesn’t seem to be very excited. And obviously, there is more to come. Maybe we told Kane to “take a look at what we’re trying to do”. You want ambition and that’s what we’re trying to do.

“But the flip side is… I don’t see Spurs putting a release clause in there. Toby Alderweireld is the only one I have ever seen this with and even come to believe it came from his Atletico Madrid days, but it was very rare. And also, why [Kane] to extend his agreement further? The big problem was signing a six-year contract in 2018.

“I find it fascinating and I am intrigued to see where it goes next.”

Let’s be 100% clear – it’s not and shouldn’t be taken as Gold saying Harry Kane is signing a new contract. Podcasts, even from credible journalists like Gold, are largely informed by opinions and speculation based on snippets of information that may not withstand full journalistic scrutiny. I have full confidence that Alasdair would never put something like this in an article on football.london based on the scarcity of material available. I almost didn’t write it myself! And reading the quotes, there’s a ton of opinions and outright Gold speculation in there. If you’re looking for good proof that Kane is open to a new contract with Spurs, this isn’t it.

But what’s interesting is that Alasdair clearly heard Something. We know he is very close to various sources in and around Tottenham Hotspur. And honestly, it doesn’t have to be a crazy idea! If Kane believes the door is indeed closed to his move to Manchester City, it might make sense for him to sign a huge new contract. damage to his reputation among Spurs fans. You don’t have to look any further than Steven Gerrard’s near-transfer to Chelsea in 2005 to see that fans are often quick to forgive.

If I’m being honest with myself I still think Manchester City buying Kane is more likely than not. But if they cool their interest, a very real possibility, with Kane deciding to resume with Tottenham seems like something that could happen. But it is very clear that this will not happen anytime soon. Unless something huge and dramatic, it’ll go all the way to the end of the transfer window.
