Representative Henry Cuellar slams Biden for not visiting the border amid migrant crisis

Texas Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar called on President Biden for not visiting the US-Mexico border himself and said a recent visit by a White House delegation was insufficient.

“Any president should come down [and] really spending time with border communities. You know, the president sent a delegation and a group of people from the White House, ”the nine-term MP told Fox News. “They haven’t spoken to anyone, not even members of Congress here.

Biden’s election in November – and his administration’s hopes for more lenient immigration policies – have sparked waves of new migrants, many fleeing poverty and crime in Central America.

More than 100,000 people were greeted by border patrol officers at the southern border last month. Thousands of unaccompanied minors are currently being held in shelters run by the Department of Health and Social Services.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki acknowledged the extraordinary challenge at the border, but declined to call the situation a crisis.

“I don’t think we need to put new labels on what we’ve already conveyed, it’s a challenge,” she said under pressure in a briefing Tuesday.
