A senior Republican in the House of Representatives on Sunday called for an investigation into the racketeering of big tech companies that over the weekend took action against Parler, a social media website.
“This is clearly a violation of antitrust laws, civil rights, RICO statute. There should be a racketeering investigation of everyone who coordinated this attack not just against a company, but against everyone like us, like me, like you, Maria, ”said Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif. ), The ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, said Maria Bartiromo, host of Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures”.
After Twitter banned President Donald Trump and some other users, Parler saw its traffic explode. Soon, however, Google announced that it had removed Speak from its online store, a move followed by Apple. Next, Amazon announced that it was suspending Talking about its web hosting services.
Parler CEO John Matze told The Epoch Times his company was ready to take legal action, but in the meantime authorities should investigate the possibly coordinated actions, Nunes said.
“The effect of this is that there is no longer a free and open social media company or site for any American,” he says, because Amazon, Google and Apple “just destroyed ” Speak.
“It’s absurd. So I don’t know where the Department of Justice is right now, or the FBI, ”he added.
Nunes also said company CEOs should be prosecuted. He also said he had spoken to fellow congressmen and they were exploring their legal options. And he also called on the Supreme Court and federal judges to step in and step in.
The Department of Justice, Apple, Google and Amazon did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
