Republican Justin Amash calls for removal of Trump

Justin Amash became the first member of the Republican Congress to demand the removal of President Donald Trump.

He claimed that Mr. Trump had "taken part in specific actions" aimed at "reaching the threshold of indictment".

Mr. Amash accused Attorney General William Barr of misleading the public about the findings of the special advocate Robert Mueller regarding the interference of Russia.

Mueller's report revealed no criminal conspiracy between Trump's 2016 election campaign and Russia.

However, he found 10 cases where Mr. Trump would have possibly tried to impede the investigation.

Mr. Amash, representative of Michigan, made these comments Saturday on Twitter.

He told his supporters that "few members of Congress even read Mueller's report" and claimed that they had made their decision on the basis of a "partisan affiliation".

Rashida Tlaib, a Democrat legislator from Michigan, asked Amash to "co-sponsor" a resolution on a dismissal investigation.

The 448-page report includes extensive editorial content and a subpoena requiring its full version has been issued.

Many Democrats, including Elizabeth Warren, have called for Mr. Trump's indictment.

Following the publication of the report, she stated: "The seriousness of this misconduct requires that elected officials of both parties put aside their political considerations and fulfill their constitutional duty."

However, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and Speaker Nancy Pelosi cautioned against this.

Mr. Hoyer told CNN that the indictment would not be "valid". He said: "Frankly, there will be elections in 18 months and the American people will vote."

Nancy Pelosi told The Washington Post that Mr. Trump's indictment "is just not worth it".
