Research Brian Laundrie: Is Brian on the Appalachian Trail?

Police in two North Carolina counties have investigated a number of tips, calls and reports that Brian Laundrie may be hiding on the Appalachian Trail.

There is currently a federal arrest warrant for Laundrie, the late Gabby Petito’s missing boyfriend, for “using an unauthorized access device” linked to Petito’s death.

Laundrie and Petito went cross-country skiing this summer. But Laundrie returned home on September 1 without Petito. It was not until September 11 that Petito was reported missing.

Days later, on September 17, Laundrie’s family told police in North Port, Florida that they had not seen Laundrie since Tuesday, September 14.

Questions have arisen about where Laundrie might be right now. Florida Police focused their search on the Carlton Reservation, which spans 25,000 acres near North Port.

Recently, authorities in Watauga and Avery counties told WSOC-TV that they had received dozens of tips on Laundrie earlier this week.

“We are monitoring social media for any suspected sightings or information that Brian Laundrie is in this area,” Watauga County Sheriff Len Hagaman told Watauga Democrat. “But nothing has been verified.”

Likewise, Hagaman told WSOC-TV that his officers worked with the FBI.

“We had a conversation with the FBI this morning,” Hagaman told WSOC-TV.

“If there is something legitimate, we will check it out. And if there is anything more, then the FBI will be contacted – but not on every call, ”he said.

Earlier this week, police in Boone, North Carolina, said they were aware of a Facebook post – which was posted to a Facebook group for hikers, according to Fox Carolina – which suggested that Laundrie had been spotted in the area.

“Police say there have been no confirmed sightings of Laundrie in the area and all phone calls they have received about it refer to the Facebook post,” according to Fox Carolina.
