Researchers find the body of a swimmer gone near Galveston
Emergency response teams found the body of a 29-year-old disappeared swimmer Sunday morning near Galveston, according to a press release issued by the US Coast Guard.
Jose Hernandez, known as Abel, was drinking with friends when they saw him out in the San Luis Pass, said Galveston Island Beach Patrol Chief Peter Davis .
Friends called the authorities around 1:30 am when they saw the young man enter the water and lost sight of him, according to Davis and the press release.
It is forbidden to swim in the pass, at the western end of Galveston Island, known to be a dangerous place.
The researchers searched by helicopter and boat. Galveston Police Services, the Galveston Beach Patrol, Gulf Coast Coast Rescue and Jamaica Beach firefighters have helped coastguard teams conduct searches, the statement said.
A body corresponding to the description of the missing man was found around 8 o'clock in the morning.
