Residents can start claiming the remaining PEUC and PUA payments this week

Michigan residents who still have pandemic unemployment payments can start claiming them this week, including the additional COVID-19 benefit of $ 300, announced state officials.

The certification process can be done through MiWAM accounts, officials said.

Federal unemployment insurance programs created by the CARES Act were halted at the end of 2020, but as of this week some claimants may start collecting their payments, the state said.

Residents who have not used up their initial 13 weeks of PEUC can claim the balance of the remaining weeks, starting with the week ending Jan. 2, officials said. These payments will include the additional $ 300 FPUC benefit, depending on the state.

“The UIA is still in the process of scheduling further system changes necessary to begin additional payments under the Continuing Assistance Act for PEUC and PUA claimants who have exhausted their benefit allowance on or before December 26, 2020. “Said a state statement. “The target date to complete these changes for the other PEUC and PUA applicants is January 30, 2021.”

The CAA grants PEUC and PUA claimants 11 additional weeks of benefits, payable for the week ending January 2 to March 13, 2021.

Claimants with regular public unemployment insurance and extended benefit programs did not experience any loss of benefits and began receiving payments from the FPUC on January 10, state officials said.
