Residents evacuate homes for bushfire outside Bend

A brush fire near a Bend state park forced several residents to evacuate on Sunday evening, with no immediate information on when they would be allowed to return.

At around 6 p.m., Bend Fire & Rescue announced that residents west of Johnson Road, from Bull Springs Road to Khulman Road, were under a “level 3” evacuation order, which means they have been given a “level 3” evacuation order. asked to leave their home immediately.

Shortly after, the department announced that residents of another area, Tumalo Reservoir Road between Collins Road and Johnson Market Road, should also leave their homes immediately.

The Red Cross Cascades section said it will create a temporary evacuation site for anyone needing help at High Desert High School, 61111 SE 27th St. in Bend.

Bend Fire & Rescue spokesperson Trish Connolly said the cause of the blaze was still unclear, but said the area was hit by high winds. She said the first fire call was made around 3:45 p.m. Sunday.

Connolly said around 200 homes were affected by the evacuation order and the blaze was outside of city limits. She said several fire departments in surrounding areas were helping to fight the blaze.
