The 33-year-old Canadian was summoned to Vancouver just five days in advance and stepped into the octagon to become the biggest outsider on the map. Fifteen minutes later, Connelly earned his first victory at the UFC after getting a unanimous decision against the future hopeful Michel Pereira.

Pereira slowed significantly in the second round as planned, but he still managed a takedown that put Connelly on the ground, which gave him more time to find oxygen in his lungs.
Pereira stayed heavy at the top to prevent Connelly from escaping until the horn rang to lead the fight on the last lap. His strategy has changed dramatically since wild openness while Pereira was focusing on a heavy fight attack, but he was still struggling to keep Connelly under him.

When the final horn sounded, Connelly raised her hands in the air so that the judges would register the fight 29-28, 29-27 and 29-27, all in her favor, while the rookie of the 29 UFC had a significant impact during its first appearance.
