If there was a fight where the final scorecards did not tell the whole story, Tyson Fury defended his title of heavyweight champion in linear Saturday on Otto Wallin.
Fury (29-0-1, 20 KOs) overcame a pair of nasty cuts over his right eye and survived after being shaken in a fragile final round against Wallin (20-1, 13 KO's) by decision unanimous at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Although the judges' scores of 116-112, 117-111 and 118-110 proved to be very favorable to Fury because of his dominating power in the second half, the ring doctor was closely watching a right eye that had been initially cut in a ring. 3 and just appeared a hard knock or two away from forcing the fight to be stopped all the way through.

The urgency of the cup quickly turned Fury from his default glossy boxing style into that of an aggressive puncher that repeatedly stung the 28-year-old young Wallin, with shots to the body and loop hooks. Fury also showed a ton of sand and used his size well to squeeze and exhaust Wallin 's.
"I did not have the scorecards but I did everything I could," Wallin said. "I did my best and Tyson was a great champion."

Wallin, a native of Sweden, is well represented in his first fight against an elite competition. A pair of Fury's big straight hands at the end of round 7 supported Wallin and hurt him. From there, Fury began to dominate the second half of the battle by regularly injuring Wallin, but he was never able to pack enough clean shots to force a stop.
Gamache urged Wallin, after Round 11, to use his footwork to attack Fury in the final round. This advice was rewarded as Fury was visibly injured twice by a pair of clean left hands that forced the champion to pull himself together as blood ran down his face. Fury was not only lucky to have finished fighting, but he was just as lucky that the doctor was not summoned a second time to examine the damage caused by the two cuts.
"Congratulations to Otto and rest in peace with his father, I know he would be very proud of his performance," Fury said. "It was a big fight.
