MyPillow founder Mike Lindell – a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump’s false claims that the presidential election has been rigged – has said retailers such as Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl’s are abandoning its products.
Both companies confirmed the move, but highlighted sales of its flagship product instead of Lindell’s support for Mr Trump.
“We have streamlined our assortment to end a number of underperforming items and brands. This includes the MyPillow product line,” a spokesperson for Bed Bath & Beyond said in an email to CBS News. .
“There has been a drop in customer demand for MyPillow,” Kohl’s said in an email to The Associated Press. “We will sell our current inventory and will not purchase additional / future brand inventory.”
Lindell continued to brag about false claims voter fraud since Mr. Trump’s loss to President-elect Joe Biden in the November election, leading to boycott of social media calls for retailers to drop the brand.
Speaking to Right Side Broadcasting Network – best known for its live coverage of Mr. Trump’s rallies on its YouTube channel – Lindell said Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl’s were good companies but scared of boycott demands.
“I told them, you come back whenever you want,” he said in a video posted on YouTube. “It’s not their fault that they are afraid.”
Lindell said MyPillow products have also been pulled from the Wayfair online furniture store and the HEB supermarket chain in Texas.
Wayfair and HEB did not immediately respond to requests for comment from CBS and The Associated Press.
In addition to losing business, Lindell faces possible litigation from Dominion Voting Systems over his accusations that the company’s voting machines played a role in voter fraud. Dominion threatened legal action in a letter to Lindell citing his “patently false accusations.”
