HOUSTON (AP) A prosecutor said that a review of the case of a former Texas sentenced man had revealed that he was innocent of having shot a police officer from Houston there are close to 16 years old.
Harris County Attorney Kim Ogg announced Friday that a nine-month study by a special prosecutor had concluded that Alfred Dewayne Brown was not responsible for the assassination of Officer Charles Clark in April 2003 during the robbery of a check cashing store.
Ogg says Brown was wrongly convicted of the prosecutor's misconduct.
Brown was released in 2015 after a decade on death row.
Brown insisted that he was not involved.
The determination of innocence means that Brown is eligible for compensation of nearly $ 2 million.
The Houston police union criticized the finding, saying that he was still convinced that Brown was guilty.
