Shona Ghosh: We are at Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona. It's the world's largest mobile conference and it's pretty exciting as Huawei has launched its own foldable phone, The Mate X, just days after Samsung's launch of a foldable phone called The Galaxy Fold.

We will put the two phones in front, talk about specifications, price, availability and give you a verdict in advance on the best phone.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold is the smallest of the two devices.

If it is folded and used as a smartphone, the screen measures 4.6 inches. It's good for people who may like these small screens.

A slightly different story when you deploy The Galaxy Fold, then a 7.3-inch screen, which looks like a small tablet or an e-reader, still a pretty nice size for travel and for people who do not like not really these giant screens.

As always with Samsung phones, the screen is quite neat, it's pretty good, comparable to another Galaxy phone.

We had a bit more chance to see the Huawei Mate X closely and we could see that the screen was quite impressive from the short time we had with him.

This is a much larger proposition as a device if folded than a smartphone, the Mate X measures 6.6 inches, which is huge, it's actually a giant phone .

Unfolded, it becomes a good sized tablet that measures eight inches.

Huawei peripheral of what we have seen, seems a little smoother.

It is interesting to note that Samsung does not show anyone what The Galaxy Fold looks like, as far as I know, no journalist, no analyst, had the chance to play with The Galaxy Fold.

Now, of course, Samsung says that the phone is super durable, that it can withstand falls and that it is quite difficult, but you know we would need concrete evidence to the contrary.

So, in the real world, you know, how phones work in the real world, I think Huawei is a bit ahead of Samsung on this one.

And what is a bit unsettling, is that the Samsung phone has to go out in two months, but no one really sees how the device works.

Another essential difference with The Mate X is that there is no notch on the screen when the Mate X unfolds.

If Huawei was right about the problem of the camera, it is that his camera was on the side of the Samsung device, on a kind of dedicated sidebar.

Now, it adds a little bit of clutter to the device. When it is folded, it looks very thin, but the advantage is that you can hold that type of sidebar where the cameras are and you hold the handle as you hold the tablet. it works pretty well, and you know when the tablet folds back, you know that the array of cameras is always visible on the side and you can still use it like any other normal smartphone.

The Galaxy Fold has a lot of cameras. There are six cameras on the camera in total, which is a lot of cameras.

The reason is that you will obviously take pictures when you use the device in different configurations.

We do not know too much about the camera configuration of the Huawei Mate X, we know that there are three or maybe four cameras at the back.

It is suspected that there is actually a fourth goal on the back of the device, which Huawei will reveal later, when it will unveil its next batch of phones. Both phones have fairly powerful batteries.

The Mate X has a battery of 4,500 milliamps while the Samsung Galaxy Fold has a stack of 4380 milliamperes. What we do not know yet is exactly what it means in the real world with real use. You know if they will have a full day full charge or possibly more.

So for me, an important point to consider is what will be the thickness of these devices, because obviously, once folded, the Huawei Mate X and Samsung Galaxy Fold will be thicker than your usual smartphone.

We do not know what will be the thickness of the Samsung Galaxy Fold, Samsung has not really talked about the weight, the thickness.

When you folded the device in smartphone mode, it does not really fold flat, it is not completely flat when you fold it, which slightly creates some kind of extra volume.

For me, it seems that the Huawei Mate X is probably thinner than the Galaxy Fold, because the Mate X folds very flush, it's something that Huawei wanted to emphasize.

In fact, the tablet is completely flat and, when folded, it folds very nicely and there is no gap between the screens when it is folded.

One of the major disadvantages of the new Galaxy Fold and The Mate X is that they are extremely expensive. Apple has been outraged by the launch of the iPhone at $ 1,000. The game has evolved considerably since the advent of collapsible smartphones, which cost about double that price.

A first verdict that I would like to give is that the Huawei Mate X is probably the upper camera.

Huawei spent a little more time working on the mechanisms of this hinge so that folding and unfolding really went smoothly.

The display is absolutely phenomenal. Galaxy Fold also has a really impressive appearance, the cameras are very impressive.

For me, the most important question is whether someone really wants a folding phone, though there has not been a huge demand from consumers for flexible displays. It's something that has really been dictated by the industry and you know, it's sort of happened to the general public, but if the general public takes it, I'm not so sure.

Each phone is very expensive. So you really want to know if you really want to drop a few thousand pounds, euros, dollars on a device like this before you get one at the store.
