Like so many others on the planet, the show has captivated me in 2018. The dangerous, absurd and comical psychological thriller, is centered on two women, performed by two incredibly talented actresses, Sandra Oh and the Girl. British actress Jodi Comer. Oh recently made history at the Golden Globes, as the first Asian woman to win the best television actress for 39 years. She was also the first person of color to hold the ceremony during her 75 years of history.
To recap, Oh, who collaborates with writers as associate producer, plays the American Eve Polastri. At first, she is a bored worker working at MI5. It assesses the risks for leading foreigners visiting London. However, she has long wanted to be a spy and hopes her wishes will come true when MI6's experienced policewoman, Carolyn Martens, notices her. Attracting Eve's fanatical interest in murderous women, Carolyn looks for her. "I think a murderous woman works internationally and targets some influential people. She has no signature, but she has style. She's smarter than us, Eve says. Carolyn appoints a secret MI6 unit that allows Eve to feed her deepest fantasies.
In the new role, Eve tracks the Russian Villanelle interpreted by Comer. This is an exceptional, elegant psychopath killer and the woman that the suspicious agent is responsible for a series of murders. Coincidentally, there is a mole in MI6. This allows Villanelle to know Eve and her new department only to find her.
Women engage in a cat-and-mouse chase that degenerates into a high-stakes obsession with cat and cat. Their relationship becomes so intertwined that it becomes difficult to think of one without thinking about the other. This is the culmination of their mutual need (Eve's zeal for the excitement of Villanelle, Villanelle's burning desire to live a "normal" life with a husband and a house), and after her boss l & rsquo; Has been fired for a rogue mission, the secret agent is pursuing Russian to his apartment in Paris. Although Villanelle is absent, Eve introduces herself into her fridge filled with champagne and denigrates what she calls a "classy as shit" apartment. I watched the first two episodes of the second season. We are immersed in the narrative thirty seconds after the attack. In a few moments, brilliantly, the only sound we hear is Eve's heavy, scattered breathing and nothing else. Panicked, she runs down the stairs, touches blood on the rail and leaves the building Villanelle without knowing if she is dead or alive. Manic and alone, nothing says what Eve will do next.
When we met Villanelle, she was a refined, controlled operant who wore designer labels and led a sumptuous Parisian lifestyle. However, here we see his spiral toward what might be his lowest point. The transformation is intriguing. We catch her in intense pain, uncontrollable bleeding and the attempt to go to the hospital. His wardrobe goes from the mantle of a homeless man, to an unflattering hospital gown, to a clumsy and clumsy nurse, Crocs, to pajamas for a little boy – to clothes she discovers at random in a laundromat. Sick, tired, alone and uncertain of her work, she is on the run.
It seems like a difficult metamorphosis, but Comer does it very well. In the interviews, she said, it took time to "dive into her" character, get comfortable and "find [her] with the killer, to find out how she would react or not react to situations and challenges. His efforts have paid off. La Villanelle de Comer is funny, physical and gracious. It shows a desperation and vulnerability so tangible to the public that we find ourselves rooting for the otherwise odious killer.
