Braunwyn Windham-Burke is gay.
The “Real Housewives of Orange County” star, 43, stepped out Wednesday in an interview with GLAAD, proudly saying, “I love women. I’m gay.”
“I’m a member of the LGBTQ + community,” she says. “It took me 42 years to say it, but I’m so proud of where I am now. I am so happy where I am. Being comfortable in my skin after so long is so nice.
The mother of seven also addressed her 20 years of marriage to her husband Sean Burke, saying, “I love Sean. I like him very much, he is my person, he is my family. But I’m not attracted to men, and never have been.
Although the two are still married and she “plans to stay married” – although she does not sleep in the same room – Windham-Burke has a girlfriend. And Sean knows her, because the women spend time together at the Windham-Burke house.
Windham-Burke said in October that she and Sean were living apart.
In her GLAAD interview, Windham-Burke also touched on her make-out scene with Tamra Judge last season, confessing that she told a producer that the kiss was no accident.
“I had a scene with Tamra that everyone’s been talking about,” she says. “When we were getting ready for the reunion, I was talking to a producer that I trust a lot, his name was James, and he said, ‘What do you think of this? Was that a drunken mistake or is that part of who you are? And I said, ‘This is who I am.’ “
She added, “When I went to the reunion last year, I kind of started to take a step forward, ‘This is who I am. I love women.’ I was testing the waters with my friends, my cast, my family.
She further credited her new sobriety for her ability to live like herself.
“I know there is a correlation between the two,” she says. “I know when you get sober and start doing the work that goes with it, you start to realize a lot of the reasons you were drinking had to do with who you were on the inside.
