A spokesman for Donald Trump Jr. attacked Republican Senate Intelligence Committee chairman Richard Burr for summoning the president's son to appear.
Andrew Surabian called the quote "authoritarian" and "100% non-American" in a tweet on Saturday.

Trump Jr. was not charged with the investigation of special advocate Robert Mueller in Russia, but the Republican-led committee summoned him on Wednesday to answer additional questions. Previously, he responded to committee questions in December 2017.
He testified before the Judiciary Committee of the Senate in September 2017, when he stated that he was "only partially aware" of the proposal to build a Trump tower in Moscow. But Michael Cohen, a former longtime lawyer for President Trump, testified in February that he had informed the president's son about the project about 10 times.
Mueller concluded his investigation in March by submitting a 448-page report to Attorney General William Barr. However, the Senate Intelligence Committee is still investigating Russia's efforts to influence the 2016 elections.
The president said he was surprised by the subpoena.
"Frankly, my son, after being exonerated, now has a subpoena, to speak again, after nearly 20 hours of discussion with everyone who would listen to talk of a meeting without anything? Yeah, I'm pretty surprised "said the president said Thursday. "The last thing he needs is Washington, DC. He would rather never be involved."
