San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman doesn’t expect to return to the squad after the season and will instead try to find a new home for 2021.
Sherman, the defensive veteran who joined the 49ers at the start of the 2018 season, told NBC Sports Bay Area on Saturday that he didn’t expect to be back with the team. He said he spoke to the Brass 49ers about the possibility of a return, but speculated it would be unlikely.

“We had brief conversations,” Sherman said.
“I think there’s obviously a will on both sides to come back and make it work. Unfortunately, I don’t know if the circumstances will allow it. This is the sad and sad truth. It’s one of those years when it’s nobody’s fault that it doesn’t work out. And it will be a sad separation because I really enjoyed my stay here. I appreciated this team. I have brothers on this team and I think we still have work to do. But I don’t know if the circumstances will allow it.

Sherman, 32, has only appeared in two games for the 49ers this season.

In 31 games total, he recorded four interceptions, one touchdown and 109 total tackles. He was selected for the Pro Bowl last season as he helped San Francisco get to the Super Bowl.
