Richard Sherman says Tom Brady’s call led to deal with Bucs: “A tough opportunity to pass up”

“Obviously with our situations it didn’t seem likely at any point, but he reached out and said they could express their interest, and obviously he wanted to play with me,” he continued.

“Then their front office reached out, and the conversation started a few weeks ago when they lost their starter, Murphy-Bunting, and then it kind of rolled up. They got a little more pissed off and the conversations continued. “

Sherman said in a press conference with reporters after practice on Wednesday that Brady’s motivation is in large part what drew him to join the Bucs. He was reportedly linked with his two former teams – Seattle and San Francisco – ahead of Wednesday’s signing.

“He’s an all-time great quarterback reaching out, and every time he makes that call it’s [a] very difficult opportunity to pass up. “

The five-time Pro Bowler said it would take him at least a week before he’s ready to step onto the pitch, meaning he likely won’t be available for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.

“It’s a guess. I’ll need at least a week of practice to really fine-tune things, to play at the level I’m capable of,” he said.
