The Lions won’t be able to speak to any current NFL assistants about their head coaching position until the end of the regular season, but they are already receiving unsolicited advice on who to consider.

49ers cornerback Richard Sherman went a step further than that. Sherman told SI.com’s Albert Breer that the Lions should hire Robert Saleh, defensive coordinator for the 49ers and Michigan-born Dearborn, as their next head coach.

“He has to get the job in Detroit,” Sherman said. “Homegrown. He is a great leader of men. And he’s not stubborn. He just doesn’t think he has all the answers. He develops an excellent plan and makes it evolve with his players.

Saleh interviewed the Browns in January before hiring Kevin Stefanski and he turned down an interview at Michigan State, where he was an assistant, after Mark Dantonio left school. We’ll see if the Lions heed Sherman’s advice and Saleh is heading home this offseason.
