RIDL is yet another security issue affecting only Intel processors, AMD security processors | DSOGaming

In May 2019, we announced a new security issue affecting Intel processors, Spoiler. And today, a brand new security vulnerability has been discovered that once again only affects Intel processors and calls RIDL.

RIDL can be used to attack victims and computers with Intel processors are vulnerable to this thread. This does not affect phones and tablets, nor laptops and desktop PC configurations using AMD processors.

About RIDL, Pietro Frigo of VUSec said that a quick fix – at this point – is to disable hyper threading.

"If you turn off hyperthreading and simultaneously use Intel mitigation (that is, using the same instructions), the vulnerabilities of MDS are mitigated on older Intel processors.

Now, I do not know if it is possible to solve this problem via new firmware and if this software will affect the performance of Intel processors. After all, firmware / software updates have had an impact on the overall game performance of Intel processors (thankfully, not with a large margin).

It's also worth noting that AMD processors are not affected by both RIDL and Spoiler. At first glance, AMD currently offers processors that are not affected by many security vulnerabilities, so congratulations to the red team.

UPDATE:

In addition to RIDL, ZombieLoad, Fallout, and Forward-to-Leak Forwarding are three other microarchitectural (MDS) data-mining attacks that target the microarchitectural data structures of a processor. These four security vulnerabilities affect Intel processors.
