The far-right group Proud Boys marched in Portland, Oregon, as counter-protesters staged a rally against their presence in the city.
The stated goal of the far-right gathering was to press for the anti-fascist movement to be declared a national terrorist organization.
President Donald Trump said his government was closely monitoring the situation and had indicated that Antifa 's candidacy for "a terrorist organization" was under study.
