Rihanna should sign with Sony / ATV Music Publishing (EXCLUSIVE) – Variety

Rihanna to join Sony / ATV Music Publishing, according to several sources Variety, a decision that would reunite the singer with his longtime publisher, Jon Platt, who took over the reins of Sony Music Corporation as president and CEO earlier this year.

This decision is not a surprise, since Rihanna, Jay-Z and Beyonce have worked closely with Platt throughout their career, but it's a bold move for the director and a blow to the biggest house of music in the world. Sony / ATV has over three million copyrights, including successes by Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Taylor Swift and Sia.

Rihanna joined Platt at Warner / Chappell, where he was CEO of 2015 at Sony / ATV, shortly before the release in 2016 of "Anti", his latest album. Sources say that she 's been working on two albums for two years, one for a pop / R & B release and the other for a dancehall album, which could drop anytime. This transfer to Sony / ATV, if it is accurate, could foreshadow the release of one of these albums.

Platt received the Spirit of Life Award at the City of Hope Foundation Gala in Los Angeles last fall. Beyonce played at the ceremony and Jay-Z gave her the award. "This man went from a DJ to Denver to become [a] black executive at the highest rank, "said Jay-Z in his introductory speech. "He's the Obama of the music industry behind some of the biggest hits in the world."

Platt and a large contingent of Sony / ATV executives attended Rihanna's Diamond Ball last week, where another long-time writer, Pharrell Williams, has produced.

Sony / ATV is the publisher of 2019 year of ASCAP for pop music, while Warner / Chappell has won this year's Rhythm & Soul award (shared with Universal Music Publishing Group) .

Both companies declined to comment.
