Stephanie Dorris claimed that the new League of Legends champion Seraphine could be based on her in a Twitter feed and Medium post earlier today.
Dorris’ controversial allegations sparked a lot of interest when she claimed that the champion’s name, designs, cat, hair color, eye color and selfies could have been inspired by her. Riot, on the other hand, claims the star-eyed singer was “not based on any individual, including Ms. Dorris,” according to Tim Rizzo of Inven Global.
Dorris also described having a brief relationship with a former Riot employee. The Rioter reportedly suggested her colleagues create an “e-girl” or “goofy” skin for Ahri that would be inspired by Dorris, and even invited her to “steal and do a dub for some sort of top secret project.” “
Riot made it clear that the employee was gone “over a year ago and was in a department and role that has nothing to do with the creative design process.”
Dorris’ attorney sent Riot a legal notice last month. The company said its claim “was unfounded” and invited the lawyer to “discuss the facts further.”
While Riot says Seraphine was not based on any individual, senior game designer Jeevun Sidhu to have a reference to in October that his wife was his inspiration.
Unfortunately for Seraphine, this isn’t the first time her name has appeared in heated debate. Riot co-founder Mark “Tryndamere” Merrill has confirmed that the champion’s lore will be “corrected” after it was revealed that she uses the Souls of Brackern to fuel her stage and boost her magical abilities.
And many have qualms with the champion’s Twitter account, especially after she started tweeting about her anxieties and insecurities. Mohammed, the head coach of the Golden Guardians academy, Barento commented that a “marketing account using self-doubt and sanity to appear relatable is Sadge’s capitalism.”
