Actor Rip Torn, who has starred in more than 100 films over a career spanning more than six decades, has died at age 88, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Torn, born Elmore Rual Torn Jr., was perhaps best known for his role in the original movie "Men in Black" and for his work in The HBO's "The Larry Sanders Show," for which he had won an Emmy .

Her role as Mary Steenburgen's father in the 1984 Cross Creek drama also earned Torn an Oscar nomination.

Torn died peacefully at home in Lakeville, Connecticut, surrounded by his wife Amy Wright and their two daughters, the Hollywood Reporter reported.
