There’s “The Patriots Way” and there’s The Tom Brady Effect.
Chris Hogan played with the Jets in 2020, but he knows what happened in the Super Bowl Buccaneers champion’s locker room because he went through the same thing during his three years as Brady’s teammate with the Patriots. .
“The people around him – coaches, players, staff – want to do better for Tom,” Hogan told The Post. “I’m so happy for him. What better way to solidify how great a quarterback you are than to join a different team and win a Super Bowl in your first year.
Hogan, 32, is an NFL free agent entering the Premier Lacrosse League draft because he wants to try his hand as a professional two-sport athlete before Father Time catches up with him. Aging does not apply to Brady, 43.
“I was blown away by what he was able to do this year, joining a new team during a [pandemic-restricted] time like this and to create that culture there and bring its winning attitude, ”Hogan said. “He’s just different. I found out when I had the opportunity to play with him. I saw something the other day asking him if he was going to play until he was 50. He didn’t say no.
Brady’s continued success could be a bitter pill in New England, but Hogan expects a quick turnaround under coach Bill Belichick.
“He will have all the parts in there and ready to go,” Hogan said. “It wasn’t their year. Once again, it has been such a unique year. I never count the Pats, especially when he’s a coach.
Hogan had 107 catches, 1,651 yards and 12 touchdowns in 40 regular season games with the 2016-18 Patriots. Each of his three seasons ended in the Super Bowl (two wins) – nowhere near a 2-14 season with Jets.
“It wasn’t for lack of effort,” Hogan said. “Everyone wanted to win. It did not go our way and it was frustrating. The only thing I saw from this team was the fighting that was not lacking. With the youth of this team, I think they will only improve if they gain experience. They certainly understood that the NFL is not easy to win games.
The nonstop tone, Hogan said, started with Sam Darnold.
“Playing quarterback in New York is not an easy thing to do,” said Hogan, from New Jersey. “He had to go through a lot of changes and he was injured. But he never took the time to say, “I’m done. I’ll rest my shoulder. He tried to go back there every week.
Much has changed with the Jets since Hogan entered the injured reserve in October and was eliminated in December. The bigger question remains whether to keep Darnold as a starting quarterback or start from scratch.
“He’s a young kid with a lot of talent and a lot of fighting within him,” Hogan said. “His arm skills and athleticism are impressive. His future is very bright in this league.
