Two weeks after the state of Ohio felt the effects of an outbreak on the Maryland soccer team, the Buckeyes could have their own cases of COVID-19.
According to Dave Biddle of 24/7 Sports, several players in the state of Ohio have tested positive for COVID-19. Several reports from Letterman Row have indicated that the Ohio State game against Illinois on Saturday is still expected to be played at this time.
An Ohio state spokesperson said he had no news to share about the reports.
Protocols for positive COVID-19 tests require the team member to be absent from competition for 21 days in order to receive appropriate cardiac evaluations.
The Big Ten rules set a minimum of six games for teams to participate in the Big Ten Championship. The Buckeyes have already missed a game with the cancellation of Maryland, which was announced on November 11.
Ohio State has currently played four regular season games with three remaining on the schedule.
The rule would be adjusted if the average number of games played by each conference team drops below six games.
