The dispatch of fallen Chicago police officer Ella French was reportedly rushed by the department’s number. 2 and former Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy argued that this illustrates the lack of support for officers nationwide from government leaders.
“The officers here at CPD and probably across the country are… feel attacked by politicians and the public,” he told “The Story” on Wednesday. “Most of them feel that they are not supported by their leaders.”
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the second in command of the CPD, the first deputy superintendent of police. Eric Carter told dispatch agents on Saturday night “we don’t wait for the bagpipes” because “we don’t have 20 minutes for this shit.”

But Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot backed her move after insisting at a press conference that the information was false. The mayor explained that no honor guard was present at the ceremony and that a group of well-meaning people planned to hijack the procession, which would have made French’s family back down.
McCarthy said he frankly was “not sure” whether Carter’s call was necessary.
“It’s so important, the sacred nature of rituals, certainly within the police,” he said. “If there’s an excuse for what happened, then maybe, you know, Eric should talk about it publicly himself… I think that’s all damage control at this point. “
McCarthy pointed out that the superintendent called French by the wrong name, further discouraging officers. It was also reported, according to McCarthy, that officers did not draw their guns as is traditionally done.

“This is probably the result of a policy that has been put in place for every time you draw your gun you have to report on it,” he concluded. “The police are under attack, and that’s why we have a 100% increase in the murder rate.”
