Riverdale spectators bade farewell to Luke Perry after airing his latest poignant scenes nearly two months after the actor's death.
Writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said that the Wednesday episode of the CW series was the last episode filmed by Perry.
It was "a beautiful and real moment between a father and his son," he writes. "I hope these scenes could last forever …"
Perry died in March at the age of 52 following a serious stroke.
Perry, who played Fred Andrews, was seen in two scenes from Wednesday's episode, culminating in a heart-to-heart with Archie, his son on the screen, portrayed by KJ Apa.
Fred was seen reassuring Archie after the death of his boxing opponent, Randy.
Emma Dibdin of the Hollywood journalist wrote: "Although brief, the scene sums up the warmth and humanity that Perry brought to Fred, as well as his role as a moral compass."
Dave Nemetz of TV Line said, "Although Fred was not killed or left the city, he reminded us why he is Riverdale's best parent a mile away."
There remain three episodes of the third series of Riverdale, and the producers have not yet revealed how the character of Perry will be written.
Perry's co-stars Ashleigh Murray and Marisol Nichols were among those who also marked Perry's last appearance.
