Yeah, we think Veronica won’t want to save anything from her Riverdale prom photos.
What should have been an unforgettable night for her and Archie turned into a nightmare in Wednesday’s Season 5 premiere when, during their graduation party, Archie confessed to her that he and Betty had spent some time together. last season and kissed. (Veronica found the song he had written for Betty and sang it at the speakeasy, thinking he had written it for her. Ouch.) The two lovebirds agreed to go their separate ways, and Veronica cried about from his grief to his mother Hermione… with his father Hiram surprises. (Uh-oh. Archie, watch your back.)
Also in the premiere: Betty and Jughead followed the trail of clues into the mystery of the video’s author for an underground showing of illicit movies – where Jughead reunited with his little sister Jellybean! – and the perpetrator struck again with a new video of a fake murder interrupting their prom. Archie applied to the Naval Academy, but lost a boxing match to Katy Keene’s boyfriend KO Kelly (crossover!) And withdrew his candidacy in disgust. And Cheryl and Toni have won co-prom queens … but their future together looks bleak after Toni’s grandmother objected to her dating a flower.

TVLINE | I have to ask you what I asked out loud on TV while watching the premiere: Why would Archie tell Veronica what happened with Betty? Was his conscience gnawing at him at the time?
I feel like if you know Archie and watch Riverdale for a long time… it didn’t surprise me when I read this. Because Archie, for the most part, is a truthful person to the people he loves, and I feel like he’s not the best at living with guilt. He’s not the best to keep things to himself if it hurts him or if he knows it could potentially hurt someone else. One of its flaws is that it tells the truth a lot. [Laughs] Sometimes he makes mistakes and ends up knocking everyone over.
TVLINE | Is there a comeback of this for Archie and Veronica? Can they even save a friendship at this point?
I think so. I feel like both are so strong. The reason they split up is because they realize that they are going to live two different lives after high school. I feel like they will always have that special bond that they had. This one thing doesn’t exterminate the rest of the story they had.
TVLINE | We saw Hiram hear Veronica cry about Archie, so we can assume that the deputy mayor position is no longer available. Will this put Hiram back on the path to war against Archie?
Absolutely, yeah. And we kind of see them going there at some point. When he finds out about this, he certainly doesn’t take it lightly. Let’s just say that.
TVLINE | As the ‘previously on’ recap reminded us, Betty is the one who canceled things with Archie, not him. So, does he possibly still have unresolved feelings there?
I mean, to the point, who knows? It’s always been back and forth … I have the impression that with Betty and Veronica, on the one hand, he’s his best friend with whom he’s been the best friend all his life and neighbors all his life, and then there’s this other completely new girl who came to town and he fell in love with. So that’s one of those things: He will always be very close to both, just because of the nature of the relationship he has with both. But I really feel like a lot of his relationship with Betty, and where it’s going and how they feel for each other, is something that we’re exploring in the time jump.
