Riz Ahmed has unveiled his new wife.

The actor, who revealed this week that he was secretly married, confirmed in Wednesday’s episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” that he had married novelist Fatima Farheen Mirza.

Ahmed, 38, said he was not trying to keep his marriage a secret.

“It’s weird, isn’t it?” Guess because we live in the age of social media if you don’t talk stuff on the megaphone it’s like it’s a secret – but I never know how much sharing is ” , he told Fallon. “Like, I’m into matcha lattes, but it never came. I’m not a secret matcha latte drinker.

The couple first met “randomly” at a New York City cafe while preparing for his movie “Sound of Metal,” where he plays a heavy metal drummer who is starting to lose his hearing.

“We both sat at the same table in a cafe where we both came to write,” he said. “We were both jostling on the same laptop connection point, like a very modern way to meet, and we formed a friendship, and then we reconnected.

He said meeting Mirza at that point made the movie a lot more special to him.

“Obviously, I met Fatima for the first time and met so many deaf people who have become friends. And there is just something about this whole period around this movie that kind of changed the life, ”he said.

As for what their secret wedding was like, Ahmed said they’ve kept things small because of the pandemic.

“Obviously, he’s stayed super intimate and socially distant. There was hardly anyone there really, ”he said. “We did it in a back yard which is nice in a lot of ways. And I think the nicest part about it was that you didn’t have 500 aunts around you pinching your cheeks. No disrespect for aunts.

He joked, “Asian weddings are great. You still have these people crawling through the woodwork, who I think are probably impostors. They just smell of kebabs on the street and walk around there.

Ahmed first broke the news of his marriage on the Jan. 11 episode of Louis Theroux’s “Grounded” podcast, saying, “This is the first time I’ve mentioned it in an interview. So, congratulations on this incredibly exciting scoop.

Mirza is known for her novel “A Place for Us”.
