During his time as the 49ers’ defensive coordinator, Robert Saleh was known as a popular coach with his players. Now that he’s the head coach of the Jets, Saleh can be even more popular when his players hear what one of his top priorities is.

Saleh said he considers helping players win big contracts one of his most important jobs as a coach.

“I believe the coaches and the players are in this business together,” Saleh said, via the New York Post. “Players want two things from a coach. Number one: they want to know that you care about their well-being. As a coach, you personally invest in people. And two: can you help them make enough games on Sunday that they get paid as much as possible. “

Saleh said he found it a joy that a player he helped develop was awarded a big second contract.

“You have to put yourself in the shoes of the players,” Saleh said. “They are written. They need a personal investment in them to be able to get that second contract and be rewarded. Players should expect this from their coaches and organizations. It is no different in the business world: enter entry level, work your tail, and get rewarded. It’s the same mindset in football. The players are human. Make sure they understand that you want what they want: to get them where they want to go. “

It will be music to the ears of Jets players.
