GREEN BAY, WIS. (WBAY) – This week's Target 2 consumer alert is a revealing look at automated calls, as the FTC opens a new interactive database to the public.

Action 2 News has covered all forms of automated calls in our Target 2 consumer alerts: fraudulent calls on social security, student loans and arrest warrants (the list goes on).

If you have filed a complaint, you may wonder where all this information goes.

A new interactive website from the FTC gives us an overview (ftc.gov/exploredata). "Do not Call" data is now available online and available to everyone.

The site presents consumer complaints that are listed in the "Register of Excluded Telephone Numbers" from October 2016 to June this year. In total, there are nearly 17 million complaints in the United States.

The site also breaks down figures by state, even in the county.

In Wisconsin, there are over 240,000 complaints and the state ranks 39th in the country for the number of complaints. The type of automated calls most reported in Wisconsin relates to debt reduction.

Our neighbors in Michigan have received almost 600,000 complaints and the state ranks 12th in the United States for unwanted complaints.

Number one is New Jersey.

The Federal Trade Commission said ongoing efforts to make "do not call" type data collected more transparent and user-friendly were part of sustained efforts. I know what you think. This is not stopping these boring calls. However, it helps the FTC and other law enforcement agencies investigate trends, track down fraudsters, and prosecute companies that do not comply with the law.
