As part of the successful trade that sends James Harden to Brooklyn, the Houston Rockets welcome Victor Oladipo of Indiana, Dante Exum of Cleveland and Rodions Kurucs of the Nets.
In terms of places in the roster, that equates to three players entering and only one exiting, which would put the Rockets above the NBA limit. So, someone else should go to make the trade legal, and it looks like someone will be the 25-year-old tall man Bruno Caboclo.
By Jonathan figs From the Houston Chronicle, the Rockets will forgo Caboclo on Thursday before finalizing the trade.
Caboclo, who re-signed with Houston in the offseason, had only played in the cleaning service since veteran center DeMarcus Cousins returned from his forties. Between cousins, starter Christian Wood and smaller lineups featuring Jae’Sean Tate or PJ Tucker in the middle, Caboclo didn’t seem to have a way to break Stephen Silas’ rotation. At 6 feet 9 inches and nearly 230 pounds, Kurucs could fit into that equation as well.
In six appearances this season, Caboclo has averaged 2.8 points (47.1% FG) and 2.3 rebounds in 6.0 minutes. His minimum wage would not have been fully guaranteed until February 27, so Caboclo’s release also helps the Rockets stay below the strict salary cap and luxury tax thresholds.
An appropriate end of the era. Rockets traded James Harden to Brooklyn in a multi-team deal, getting Oladipo and picks. (With update on the next list change tomorrow.) Https://t.co/0aweTMXOMs
