The Houston Rockets have realized that James Harden would like to leave the franchise and his decision is made, but they are not preparing to rush into a trade to his favorite destination.
Houston has previously said they are “ready to get uncomfortable” with the Harden situation.
“The feeling I get from the Rockets is that their ambition, their goal, their hope is no longer to save the relationship with James Harden and get him involved,” Tim MacMahon said on the Brian Windhorst podcast. “There is an awareness, you know, the decision is taken. He wants to go out and there is a determination to say ‘Okay, we understood. This happens in the NBA, but this is not because James Harden wants to come out to dictate where and for what [he’s traded].
“James Harden was able to dictate Russell Westbrook’s business last summer. Tillman [Fertitta] loved him back then. Do not mistake yourself. James Harden was the driving force behind this business. It was no secret.
“Harden can’t seem to say where he traded and basically forces the Rockets to take a 60-cent-a-dollar package for a perennial MVP contender. I think what the Rockets are doing right now is they are preparing for the post -Harden rebuild. “
MacMahon also reported on what the Rockets are looking for Harden.
“A package for Harden, and listen, this thing has accelerated much faster than I had expected. These things are all fluids. We understand that. What the Rockets say is” We need ‘a young franchise baseman type and a set of Jrue Holiday picks. This is where the conversations need to begin. And do you see a young, entry-level franchise player on the Nets? Do you see Caris LeVert as young or as a cornerstone of the franchise? “

For Russell Westbrook’s situation, there is no trade for them so they are hoping to keep him for the time being and he could eventually increase his trade value.
