Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is expected to leave his position in mid-March and has just been installed Attorney General William Barr will name his new MP this week, CBS News has learned. It is unclear what Rosenstein 's departure means for the special advocate investigation, which he has been supervising since he named Robert Mueller. Barr will probably inherit the supervision of the investigation, although this has not been formalized.
Barr, however, was critical of the probe. In June Barr wrote a note to Rosenstein that the New York Times had obtained. Barr argued that the special advocate should not compel Mr. Trump to be interrogated because "Mueller's theory of obstruction is fatally ill-conceived" and is "based on a new reading and unbearable of the law ".
But in his confirmation hearing, Barr told senators that he had the intention of allow the special advocate to complete the investigationn in Russia meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
Referring to Mueller as a friend he has known for 30 years, Barr said he has confidence in the treatment of the probe by Mueller.
