Rod Stewart is said to have ended his ‘malicious’ fallout with old friend Elton John, apologizing almost three years after their argument.

Things got tense in 2018 when Maggie May rocker, 76, mocked singer Your Song’s retirement tour and again in 2019 after making a remark on Elton’s career-based biopic called Rocketman.

However, it is now believed that they’ve patched things up and are “ friends ” again, with father-of-eight Rod wanting to set a good example for his children by apologizing.

According to The Sun, Rod said in an upcoming episode of The Harry Redknapp Show podcast that he realized he was “ mean ” while criticizing Elton’s tour.

He said: ‘I was a little mean when he announced his tour. I regret it, I really regret it. So we’re friends again now. I really like.

He continued, “I say to my children, ‘A man apologize, go and apologize to your mother.’ We just reconciled as friends, me and Elton.

“ We’ve always been fierce enemies … over the years, but it’s always been on a playful level. But we had the worst fight ever, as a married couple. It lasted forever.

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Rod and Elton.

Rod and Elton have been friends for about 50 years, often making playful comments about each other and even using nicknames. Sharon and Phyllis.

Last October, it was reported that Elton addressed their feud in a brand new chapter of the pocket-sized version of his autobiography titled Me. The original hardcover version was released in October 2019.

In an excerpt obtained by The Sun, the legendary musician is said to have said Rod had a “ fucking cheek ” when telling him about “ rock and roll ”.

He said: “ I certainly didn’t feel like I needed a lecture on the wild spirit of rock and roll from someone who had spent most of the last decade singing his way to through the Great American Songbook and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

“ Plus, I thought he had a fucking cheek, complaining about my promotion from a tour while he was sitting on a TV show promoting his own tour. ”

According to the post, Elton goes on to reveal that he contacted Rod and told him that they had “ known each other for too long to fall out on something like this. ”

Still, Rod’s manager reportedly told him that he was unable to speak to him on the phone as he was on “ constant vocal rest ” between tours.

It is said that Elton said: ‘I had no idea what I had done to upset him so much. Which was ironic, given the hours I had spent over the years deliberately trying to annoy him.

MailOnline then reached out to representatives for Elton and Rod for comment.

Rod previously addressed the comments he made about Elton on television in an interview with The Mail on Sunday’s Event magazine in 2018.

He had said on an American TV show earlier that year that Elton’s retirement tour ‘stinks of ticket sales’ and added:’ It’s dishonest. It’s not rock’n’roll. ‘

Speaking to Event about the remark, Rod admitted: ‘I was a little unfair to Elton at a drunken night on TV in New York City, when I said nastily,’ I think he It’s totally irrelevant that you announce a farewell tour every time, and it stinks to get the money back. ”

“I wish I hadn’t said it. I think he is very angry with me. Penny keeps saying, “Send him an apology.” “So I really should.

A source close to Elton later told The Sun: ‘Rod’s incessant and personal criticism of his recent successes has crossed a line beyond their usual friendly rivalry.

Elton cherishes his friendship with Rod and was unwilling to go public so attempted to contact Rod directly to clean the air.

When his requests to speak were rejected or went unanswered, Elton felt compelled to set the record straight with this new chapter in his autobiography.

The source added that Elton claims he never received an olive branch attempt from his former boyfriend. In early October last year, Rod said he attempted to contact Elton to try and heal their breakup, only to be ignored.

Speaking to Chris Evans on his podcast, Rod said: ‘We’re not talking to each other anymore. Big fall.

“The last time I emailed him I said, ‘I have this football field, would you like the boys to come up? “You know, because they both love football.

It seems that the invitation to Rod’s personal presentation was of no interest to Elton – who shares his sons Zachary, nine, and Elijah, seven, with her husband David Furnish – as he would never have responded.

Rod, who is married to Penny Lancaster, also has two boys, the same age: Alistair, 14, and Aiden, nine.

In 2019, Rod revealed the feud during an interview with Dermot O’Leary.

“We don’t speak these days. He’s got the bump with me now, ” Rod revealed. “We’re both very stubborn, so neither of us call each other.

He previously said: ‘I love Elton, but we’re not talking at the moment. We had an argument. I criticized his tour as a source of money.

The tour in question – titled Farewell Yellow Brick Road – is an ongoing endeavor, which was announced in 2018 and would last until 2023, featuring 300 concerts worldwide. This is supposed to be the crooner’s last tour.

Rod also called Rocketman – who lost by winning Oscars last year – “ not very flattering. ”

He compared it to the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody from the year before, saying, ‘I don’t think so [Rocketman] quite up to the task.

Rod also said of Elton that they were, at one point, “close friends” and that Elton was “a wonderful ally”.

“He’s one of the most generous people I have ever met,” he told Dermot at the time.
