Rodney Hood returns to Trail Blazers, gets raise

Rodney Hood signed a free agent contract with the Portland Trail Blazers, keeping him with the team for another season, maybe two. Hood recently gave up the only year remaining of his old, $ 6 million contract with the Blazers. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, his new contract is for two years and $ 21 million, with the second year not guaranteed.

The move gives Hood more money, but while Wojnarowski uses “unsecured” in his technical sense – which means the Blazers can buy out the second year of the contract for a lesser amount – it also protects Portland in the event of a pardon. Hood against an Achilles. an injury does not allow him to perform at his old level.

The Blazers will certainly use an “Early Bird” cap exception to re-sign Hood, allowing them to exceed the cap to do so. They will still be able to use their mid-level and semi-annual cap exceptions outside of Hood. The level of compensation reported would mean Hood maximized Early Bird’s potential.

Hood averaged 11.0 points per game with Portland in 2019-20, shooting 49.3% from the three-point arc. He only played 21 games before falling to the aforementioned injury, which kept him from staying on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.
