We are sad to announce that Roger Charlery, aka The (English) Beat and General Singer Roger ranking, died on Tuesday, March 26th at the age of 56 years. He had been fighting cancer for a while. The sad news was shared on The Beat's Facebook page, stating, "Unfortunately, Roger died peacefully a few hours ago at home, surrounded by his family."

Roger's singing and singing style was one of the many things that made the sound of 2 Tone Greats The Beat so distinctive, heard on classic singles such as "Ranking Full Stop", "Stand Down Margaret" and "Drowning". Beat separates after their third album, Roger and Dave Wakeling will form the general public who will make three albums together, including their big debut in the new wave in 1984. Roger has also directed some solo albums, including 1988 Radical departure, and had his own version of The Beat in the UK, after releasing his new album Confidential public back in January. His autobiography, I can not stop it, is expected later this year.

Rest in peace, Roger. Watch some of the Beat and General's English videos and read the tributes of Dave Wakeling, Billy Bragg, The Selecter, Paulie Black, The Specials Neville Staple, UB40 and more, below.
