Do you have to log in to Netflix on multiple Roku devices? How do you get to know all about your Roku Players? Now Roku is adding Automatic Account Link that will allow you to log into Netflix or ESPN on one Roku and have all your Roku's automatically log into that service.
This will be a Roku 9.1 update that will start rolling out later this year. Roku said that "Roku OS 9.1 is expected to roll out Roku streaming players over the coming weeks."
- Roku Streaming Players – All devices with model number 2400 and higher will receive Roku OS 9.1. To check your device model number, go to Settings> System> About.
- Roku TV – All Roku TV models are expected to receive Roku OS 9.1.
Here is how Roku describes the new Automatic Account Link feature:
Makes subscription streaming on multiple Roku devices with the same account easier for users. If a customer has already subscribed to a Roku device, they will not be required to re-enter their credentials when launching the same channel on an additional Roku device. Pandora and Sling TV is currently available on request.
This feature is now available to developers and publishers to integrate into their channel. Streaming channels are expected to be integrated for Automatic Account Link shortly.
Update: Roku Channels right now Roku Link, including Sling TV. More are expected to be added for Roku link shortly. We have asked Roku for a full list of supported Roku Channels and will post an update as we learn more.
New Roku Voice Search
Now Roku's voice search is even more powerful. With new voice commands being added to the Roku OS 9.1 update: "replay" to go back a few seconds, "turn closed captions on / off" to toggle closed captions, or if you own a Roku TV that has the Fast TV Start feature enabled, and more. You will also be able to turn the TV off while streaming select music channels like Pandora, iHeartRadio and TuneIn by saying phrases like "turn display off."
Roku is also adding instant play to Roku voice search. When you use your TV show on the screen Roku Channel your show and movie will be just playing more than display search results. This new feature will work for you like this. HBO NOW and other premium add-ons if you use the Roku Channel to sign up for your HBO NOW subscription.
Roku My Offers:
Now on the Roku home screen if you are eligible for special offers or discounts on Roku devices. Here you will be able to see Roku products and buy them right from your Roku. According to Roku if no offers are available, My Offers will not appear on your home screen.
Roku Guest Mode:
Roku also commented on the new Roku Guest Mode we talked about a few weeks ago. Now you will be able to let guests log into your Roku and automatically remove their info when they leave.
Here is how Roku describes the Roku Guest Mode:
This feature is perfect for your next house. When enabled on a Roku streaming player, or Roku TV, Guest Mode enables guests to sign in with their own account credentials. Roku device will be automatically removed from the Roku device. To enable Guest Mode, go to Settings> System> Guest Mode.
