The Rolling Stones, who canceled their appearance at the 2019 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival so Mick Jagger could have heart surgery, will try again in 2021.
The Stones’ rescheduled unfiltered tour, announced Thursday morning, includes a stop on October 13 at the fairgrounds – the first-ever “Jazz Fest Wednesday.”
The previously announced dates for the postponement of Jazz Fest 2021 were October 8-10 and October 15-17, two weekends from Friday to Sunday.
Adding Wednesday between weekends establishes a stand-alone special date.
The rest of the October 13 program at the Parc des Expositions will more or less resemble a typical day at the Jazz Fest; the list of artists should be published soon. As would have been the case with the Stones’ scuttled 2019 appearance at the Fair Grounds, the rest of the festival stages will shut down when the Rolling Stones begin their set at the Acura stage.
Tickets go on sale Friday July 30 at 10 a.m. via www.nojazzfest.com.

Fans who purchased three-day weekend passes, VIP packages, official travel packages and the WWOZ Brass Pass by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 25 can participate in a pre-sale of tickets for the date of the Rolling Stones.
The Stones have joined a roster for Jazz Fest 2021 that also includes Dead & Company, Stevie Nicks, the Foo Fighters, Lizzo, Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefer Band, Demi Lovato, HER, Brandi Carlile, the Beach Boys and hundreds of local artists.
The Rolling Stones were originally slated to be part of Jazz Fest’s 50th anniversary in 2019. They were slated to headlining on the second Thursday of this year. Fans spent the night outside the Superdome to purchase the premium tickets for this specially structured day at the fairgrounds.
But it all came to naught after the band announced that Jagger needed heart surgery and that all spring tour dates would be canceled.
Fleetwood Mac was originally announced as a Rolling Stones replacement at the Fair Grounds, but ended up canceling as well, apparently because frontman Stevie Nicks fell ill.
