Roman Reigns, WWE star – whose real name is Joe Anoa – announced Monday night that his leukemia was in remission and that he was planning to return to the ring.
Reigns, 33, walked away from the WWE in October, announcing that 11 years after her first fight against leukemia, the disease had returned. He left the WWE World Championship at that time and stepped out of the limelight to fight the disease.
As the Atlanta State Farm Arena's "Monday Night Raw" crowd cheered on him, Reigns headed for the ring, went to greet the fans near the ring, and then spoke to the WWE audience for the first time in four months.
After talking about his faith in God, the tremendous outreach from WWE fans, and the prayers and messages shared over the last few months, Reigns has revealed an update of his condition.
"The good news is that I'm in remission, everyone," said Reigns. "That said, the big dog is back."
Prior to joining WWE in 2010, Reigns played football for Georgia Tech in Atlanta, where he was a three-year-old starter and a defensive tackle made up entirely of ACC.
"You missed me … There is no other job like this," said Reigns. "There is no other fan base than you."
Reigns did not specify when he would officially return to the action. In January, his cousin, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, announced that Reigns would play his cousin in the upcoming movie "Hobbs & Shaw".
