At least 17 people were injured after a series of tornadoes that affected three locations in the state of Iowa, where several buildings were destroyed, according to the New York Times website cited by Mediafax. The affected cities are Mashalltown, Pella and Bondurant. Ten people were injured in Marshalltown and seven others were injured in a factory near Pella.

Several buildings were destroyed in Marshalltown, a town of 27,000 inhabitants located northeast of Des Moines, the capital of Iowa.

The only hospital in Marshalltown has been affected by the weather, spokeswoman Amy Varcoe said. The 40 patients from UnityPoint Health were transferred to a larger Waterloo hospital.

The Marshalltown hospital emergency room remained open to treat patients seriously injured by the storms, Varcoe said, adding that up to ten people have been treated there.

Rod Donavon, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, reported that two minor storms caused the series of tornadoes. Total tornados must be determined.
