MEPs adopted on Thursday a resolution on the political crisis in the Republic of Moldova which provides for the suspension of macro-financial assistance and budget support in Chisinau following the cancellation of elections in the capital of the Republic on the Prut.
The document was adopted with 343 deputies, 35 others voted against and 160 abstained. The text of the resolution states that the European Parliament strongly condemns the decision to invalidate the results of local elections by the Supreme Court of Justice "for dubious and non-transparent reasons, which significantly undermine the integrity of the electoral process ".

" Moldovan justice has violated the popular will expressed by the vote, misinterpreting the electoral law (…) The judicial system has simply made political games. Andrei Nastase did what each of us did on election day: we invite citizens to exercise their right to vote (…) This is not part of the notion of "electoral unrest" to which refers to Moldovan law. (…) Justice has turned to absurd interpretations with a single purpose, to annul the popular will, "said Renate Weber, MEP for the European Parliament, for www.agora.md .
In addition to the suspension of macrofinancial assistance, the resolution provides that any decision on future payments should be made only after the parliamentary elections and provided that they are carried out in accordance with international standards. recognized and evaluated by specialized international bodies. In addition, the European Commission is required to suspend budget support, based on the July 2015 precedent, when budget support was suspended following the banking crisis
