He defends his doctoral thesis at the University of Strasbourg, entitled: Reflection and Christian Life Today. Essay on the relationship between theology and spirituality (424 p). The thesis was prepared under the direction of two famous French teachers: Gérard Ziegwald and André Benoît and received the maximum mark. He became a doctor of the University of Strasbourg
In 1987, he entered the monastic life at the monastery of Sihastria, Jud. Neamt, with the name of Daniel, as monk of the Apostle Archimandrite Cleopa Ilie
Hieronymus was ordained on August 14, 1987 and hieromonk on August 15, 1987. In 1988 he was ordained protosinghel and named the Patriarchal Counselor, Contemporary Theology and Ecumenical Dialogue. He was also bishop of the Archdiocese of Timisoara under the title of Lugojan and was ordained bishop on 4 March 1990. He was elected archbishop on 7 June 1990 of Iasi and the Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bucovina. The enthronement took place in July 1990.
