HTC, the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer, is downsizing by 25 percent globally, while the company is struggling to make a profit from falling sales, according to Fortune.
The company will lay off 1,500 people in Taiwan, about a quarter of the workforce of 6450 people in the world, writes Reuters. HTC was a global giant that sold 1 in 10 smartphones in global markets, but in recent years it has been unable to follow Apple, Samsung or other Chinese manufacturers.
"This plan will give us more flexibility in the management of resources"
The layoffs will be completed in October, when a transaction between HTC and Google last month will be completed, where Google paid 1,1 billion to pay for it, "said Reuters, buying part of HTC's design division. As part of the deal, 2,000 HTC engineers will move to Google, according to The Verge.
