LG Display allegedly engaged Apple to begin production and delivery of LCD and OLED panels for iDevices. Deliveries will begin arriving in the second half of the year, it seems.
This is not the first time that Apple and LG Display are in the same boat, the South Koreans taking a lot of time in front of the screens on the iPads. Last fall, rumors also seemed to indicate that these two companies were working closely in a flexible screen terminal. The Korean newspaper Newspim writes that LG Display will deliver between 3 and 4 million OLED panels to Apple in 2018, as well as 20 million LCD panels, all for smartphones
The OLEDs will be produced at the E6 6G in the region from Paju. As such, LG has started upgrades to this business, and hopefully and the production line is delivered, then LG would get the contract for OLED panels of 6.5 inch iPhone models in 2019. The deliveries would reach 10 million units
All of this comes as an oxygen bottle for LG Display, which recorded net losses of $ 87.04 million in the first quarter of this year. I do not know what other companies might trust LG Display after their reputation has been seriously damaged by the many problems with the Google Pixel 2 XL screen last year.
