Google released the latest report of the Android platform before the release of the new Android version P 9.0. Oreo, released a year ago, has finally become a popular version of the operating system, although there is still much to do before the last three variants launched last year. Fortunately, most phones work on modern versions of Android, very few are now on versions considered "old".
On the first place in the Android version, we have Nougat (7.0 and 7.1) with 30.8%. This version of the software was launched in 2016, and Nougat phones have been launched until recently, including Samsung launches devices based on Android 7.1 less than a year ago. Marshmallow, however, is a 2015 release, but is second in 23.5 percent, or about a quarter of all active devices. Third place is now occupied by Lollipop with 20.4%.
Oreo thus comes in fourth place being installed on 12.1% of all devices on the market. This may seem small a year after launch, but considering how Oreo evolved in the beginning, this version has been booming in recent months.
Following the ranking, we already have the classic version of KitKat with a respectable 9.1% for so long, followed by Jelly Bean with 3.6%, Ice Cream Sandwich by 0.3%, and the "old" spice bread refusing to disappear by 0.2%
The statistics are provided by Google using the Google Play Services platform. The data used for this report were recorded between July 17 and 23, 2018.
