Alexandre Benalla was arrested by police on Friday morning. In addition to acts of violence and the usurpation of official qualities and signs, he risks accusations of complicity in the attempt to obtain an illegal registration.
A second bodyguard, Vincent Crase, working for the Macron Presidency party, he was also arrested. An Elysee official at the head of the president's chancellery is questioned by the police.
Benalla was removed from office on the day of his arrest and after several days of scandal during which the opposition accuses the Macron administration of concealing cases. The scandal has widened this week after Le Monde released a video recording in which the two bodyguards appeared among police officers on the market trying to disperse Labor Day with tear gas.
