At least five people died as a result of the attack on the U.S. Capitol, including a Capitol Police officer. Police officials reported in the days following the siege that dozens of police officers were seriously injured as a result of the riot, including one who lost an eye. Two other officers committed suicide in the days following the attack. Dozens of Metropolitan Police officers were also injured.

“I have officers who did not receive helmets before the attack and who suffered head injuries,” Capitol Police Union president Gus Papathanasiou told the Washington Post in January. “One policeman has two cracked ribs and two broken spinal discs and another was stabbed with a metal fence post, to name just a few of the injuries.”
